Glasgow Loves Christmas 2012
Glasgow is again preparing for a variety of festive celebrations around the city. The following information is to advise you of planned events for George Square and the arrangements put in place to reduce disruption to local residents, and to help you to enjoy the celebrations.
Glasgow's Christmas Lights - Thursday 15th November 2012
The programme of events begin with the time-honoured fireworks display as the Christmas Lights are illuminated around the Square
As a local resident we would like to offer you up to four tickets for the event. To receive these tickets please bring this letter and a utility bill to the event information desk in the Millennium Hotel foyer. The desk will be open at the following times: Sunday 4th November, 1.00pm - 6.00pm and Tuesday 6th November, 4.00pm - 8.00pm. Tickets to the event are limited and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
In the interests of crowd safety a number of road closures and parking restrictions will be put in place for the event, please see the letter dated 29th October sent to local residents and businesses for more information. Alternative residents’ parking has been reserved in Glasgow City Council’s Upper High Street car park from 8.00am on Wednesday 14th November until 12 noon on Friday 16th November 2012. You should display this letter, with the Glasgow Life logo clearly visible, on your dashboard.
Glasgow On Ice - Saturday 24th November 2012 to Sunday 6 January 2013
Glasgow on Ice will be open daily from Saturday 24th November until Sunday 6th January 2013, 10.00am – 10.00pm. As well as the ice rink and fun fair attractions there will be a programme of free entertainment each evening starting at 6.00pm on weekdays and at noon during the weekends. Please refer to the Glasgow On Ice pages of this website for details of skating prices, online bookings for the ice rink and evening programme information. Please note Glasgow on Ice will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Glasgow Loves St Andrew's Day - Friday 30th November to Sunday 2nd December 2012
Glasgow’s celebration of the Patron Saint of Scotland takes place over the weekend Friday 30th November to Sunday 2nd December 2012. The weekend of celebration on the Square will feature activities such as story telling, arts and crafts, traditional music, a big family ceilidh and a concert from The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra.
Hogmanayday! - Monday 31st December 2012
Hogmanayday! will be an event for all the family with free kid’s activities including themed crafts, highland dancing, ceilidh bands, story telling and traditional Scottish food, drink and entertainment. The event will run from 12 noon until 10.00pm.
Happy New You - Tuesday 1st to Sunday 6th January 2013
As you step in to the New Year come along to George Square to experience Happy New You - take the opportunity to make your own smoothie, join in a range of fitness classes and take a free fitness test. There will also be the opportunity for kids to join in a range of games and try new sports in a fun, festive environment.
