FESTIVE FAMILY FUN  

Christmas is a great time for a family get together and there is nothing like the look of wonder and excitement on the little one’s faces at this time of year.  Plan in time to enjoy fun and laughter at some of the great family friendly events taking place this season. 

Plan a trip to see the Christmas tree and lights in George Square, then have a twirl on one of the fairground rides or big wheel and enjoy some tasty snacks from the Christmas Market. 

Let each member of the family choose a unique tree decoration from the John Lewis Christmas Shop.  Or if you are feeling creative, stock up on craft supplies from Cass Art on Queen Street or Miller’s Art Store on Stockwell Street and try making your own. 

Join Father Christmas and his loveable elves at Hamleys toy shop.  It’s an extra special experience where children can take part in seasonal games and receive a gift to take home.  Booking essential.  

Barras Art & Design Centre will be transformed into a glittering wonderland on 9 December for the BAaD Christmas Family Day with craft stalls and activities for all ages. 

The kids can meet the man of the moment, tell him their Christmas wishes and receive a gift at Santa’s Grotto in St Enoch Centre and Buchanan Galleries.

Head to the Riverside Museum on 2 -3 December for the annual Christmas Festival with traditional Christmas Market in the Victorian Street, fairground rides and take a visit to see Santa in The Tall Ship Grotto. 

Singalong to some festive family favourites as Funbox Presents Santa’s Funtastic Factory at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 15 – 17 December.  

The Irn Bru Carnival returns once again to the SEC Centre from 21 December - 14 January. A thrilling day out for all the family.

Glasgow is known all over for its excellent shopping, with every imaginable high street store available and the city’s Style Mile is a magical place to be this Christmas.  But if you also want to pick up something different, head to one of the fantastic independent markets taking place throughout the city.

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD  

It’s the season of indulgence so head to one of Glasgow’s fantastic bars, cafes or restaurants to enjoy a romantic meal, fun with friends or a traditional family get together.  Here’s a selection of festive foodie treats to whet your appetite! 

Hop on board the Red Bus Bistro for a unique dining experience.  Their Christmas Afternoon Tea and Christmas Gin Tea experience last around 90 mins and take you on a tour around the city streets while you tuck into some delicious sweet and savoury delights.  

Treat the kids to Breakfast with Santa at the iconic Hard Rock Café Glasgow on Buchanan Street.  

Tennent’s Training Academy is hosting a ‘Cook Breakfast for Santa’ course for adults and kids (5 – 12yrs) on 3 and 22 December.  Whip up a delicious breakfast, enjoy some Christmas music and receive a gift from Santa.   

There are lots of fabulous festive Afternoon Teas on offer this season with venues including, Cup Tea Lounge, Blythswood Square Hotel, Malmaison, Willow Tearooms, Hidden Lane Tearoom and Butterfly and the Pig all offering Christmas versions of this classic favourite.

There are some great family friendly dining venues located right in the heart of the Style Mile so you can enjoy a pit stop in between your Christmas shopping.  Head to Taste Buchanan in Buchanan Galleries for delicious street food, Kimble’s in St Enoch Centre for a warming hot chocolate, D’Arcys in Princes Square for a great kids menu and a big bunch of toys and puzzles or Di Maggio’s in Royal Exchange Square where the kids can start collecting Di Maggio’s Dollars to put towards some great prizes!

Head to a cosy pub for a wee dram in front of an open fire.  Check out Rab Ha’s on Hutcheson Street or Babbity Bowster on Blackfriars Street.

Many stores offer a gift wrapping service, so take advantage and save yourself some time.

For something a bit different, head to one of the Glasgow Museums stores for a unique Glasgow gift.  The Gallery of Modern Art and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum offer great selections – and a chance to soak up some culture at the same time - or check out the stand alone store in St Enoch Centre. 

For festive themed homewares and gifts head to H&M Home on Buchanan Street, Shearers Candles on Argyle Street and Princes Square or the Isle of Skye Candle Company on Buchanan Street.

‘Over 200 stores, many exclusive to the Style Mile are open until at least 7pm every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.  On a Thursday most stores are open until 8pm and will have even later openings during the festive season.’  

FESTIVE ENTERTAINTMENT  

Christmas at the Glasgow Film Theatre – movies on show during December including Elf, It’s A Wonderful Life, Scrooged, Miracle on 34th Street and A Muppet Christmas Carol. 

The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall has a full festive line up including Love Actually with Live Orchestra, The Wonderful West End – A Christmas Gala, RSNO Christmas Concert featuring The Snowman and Christmas with Katherine Jenkins.  

EatFilm has a regular Tuesday night slot at Sloans and this festive season there are some classics showing including Home Alone, The Holiday and Arthur Christmas.  Over 18s only. 

Head long to this year's 'Winter Wonderland’ at the Mitchell Library from 21-23 December.  Featuring Michelle McManus and the incredible fifty member Soundsational Choir you’ll enjoy a night of Christmas music and festive comedy.
